Portland Leather Goods makes affordable, ethical bags that last.

Alright, alright - now I know if you're as chronically online as I am you have heard all of this talk about ditching the logos and curating capsule wardrobe collections with minimalistic, quality pieces. I've been on my own personal journey to create a capsule wardrobe, and, let's just put extra emphasis on the word journey. As your resident "but what if I ever find an occasion to wear this Mario t-shirt from 2004" maximalist, I definitely have a hard time Marie Kondo-ing my closet. I'm getting there, though!

The secret to a capsule wardrobe is just having a bunch of stuff that goes with everything. To me, I want to be able to walk into my closet with my eyes closed and pick out a top, a bottom, and some accessories that will just go together.

If you know me, you know I'm a purse/accessory person, and that's where I started curating my capsule collection. Annnnndddd that's how I came across Portland Leather Goods.

Portland Leather crafts simplistic handmade leather products from belts to shoes to bags and beyond with the goal of bringing sustainable quality to consumers at an affordable price tag.

PLG uses sustainable materials by sourcing hides that are byproducts of the US beef industry and reworking them into beautiful, handcrafted pieces. Their products are constructed in their owned-and-operated workshop in León, Mexico.

Now, I had gotten a few ads for Portland Leather and perused their site for a while before I made a purchase, but I don't regret it one bit.

There are a few ways to shop on their website - you can shop by category as usual, color, and there's this extra special little place called the Almost Perfect section. After many indecisive visits to the website, I finally decided on the Almost Perfect Triangle Shoulder bag in "Cold Brew". I paid $79.00 after a coupon code.

The Almost Perfect section is pretty cool. These are bags at a reduced price due to minor cosmetic defects. I looked at mine for a while before I could even spot any imperfections. I think it landed there because of a microscopic scratch?

Cold Brew is a soft, squishy pebbled leather. It's a really deep, rich coffee-brown (as the name would suggest!). The bags are unlined with a natural suede interior. I personally prefer this to a fabric-lined bag - it's easier to maintain and much tougher.

The construction and hardware feel sturdy and durable. I can't say for sure, but I feel like I could run this bad boy over and it'd still look perfect.

The bag is pretty simple. It's got a slip pocket on the back that can easily fit a phone, sunglasses, keys, etc. There's a main large zipper compartment with a slip pocket on the inside as well.

My favorite part about this bag is the shape of it. It fits all of my everyday essentials comfortably and has a wide enough opening that it doesn't feel like a black hole when I reach in.

Overall, for less than $100.00 from the Almost Perfect section ($260.00 regular), this bag is everything. It comes in a bunch of different colors/leather options and is the perfect everyday carry. It's been a great piece for my capsule collection and it works with every outfit. Like I said, I'm a purse girl, but since I got it in the mail I haven't stopped carrying it.

If you find yourself looking for a sustainable, timeless, quality bag that's going to last, you need to check out Portland Leather Goods.
